What is an 'area'?
If HOTL3 is the world, then each area is like a 'country' or city
in that world. All areas are interlinked to build up the world.
Each area is characterised by its terrain, climate, and inhabitants.
Some areas have minimum level requirements or maximum level restrictions
- for example, Mud School is out of bounds to anyone above level
5.
Speedwalks (click here)
Be it you want to find an area to explore, to level, or to shop, you need
speedwalks. These are directions to places in HOTLIII and can point you to
areas to level should your current level no longer give you experience.
Some areas can be very dangerous, so caution should always be taken.
Area building
We welcome you to submit original areas, or if you prefer, customise
existing areas for HOTL3. Please send a note to Ops to get a set
of vnums before starting on any area, and also write a note to him
if you encounter problems.
Size of area
A guideline as to how big your area should be is: Level 1-15 min.30
rooms, level 16-30 min.40 rooms, level 31 & above min.60 rooms.
If you need more than 100 vnums, please inform Ops before you start
coding.
Rewards
Area coders may be awarded anything from 100 - 1,000 karma according
to how good their areas are. Hint: Writing a big area does not automatically
mean you'll get a huge reward. We place emphasis on quality rather
than quantity - and we reserve the right to reject any area deemed
unsuitable.
Important!
Area coders: Please submit a 60-80 word introduction for your area
if it is currently being used, and for all future areas. We will
be including descriptions of areas on this site wherever possible.
Anyone interested to write descriptions for existing areas please
get in touch with Ops.

Know'st thou the land
where the lemon-trees
bloom,
Where the gold orange glows
in the deep thicket's
gloom,
Where a wind ever soft
from the blue heaven
blows,
And the groves are of laurel
and myrtle and rose!
-- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
