Part VI: Death of a Kender
We fled northwards towards our second goal. The city of Ofcol.
City of Gold. Ruled by the Great Gold drake known as Goldeneye in
mortal tongue. Guarded by powerful dragonknights and mages. The
key was held by the drake itself, a creature of such age and power,
we could not hope to best in combat. This was where stealth would
win.
Stealing into the citadel by night, the ingenuous kender not only
managed to steal the Dragon Orb, but also a few choice gems from
the dragon hoard as well. But on his way out, the kender got greedy.
In trying to steal from Diana, Captain of the Cityguards, he was
wounded unto death. Though he managed to escape, he died in my arms.
I buried him in the hills near Ofcol. With all his pouches and gems.
And we carried on.
Back westwards we fled, pursued by Dragonknights and heroes of
all the clans. It was in one of these running battles that I lost
Liv. No, she did not die. She escaped. I, in my human weakness,
had grown too much attached to her. DAMMIT I loved her. And now
its...too late. Lord Ash knew where the third key was. The Pantheon
could only refer to one place. Mount Olympus. Lair of the Gods of
Good. That was to be my challenge. With the powerful Deathknight
and his sword, and by drawing greatly upon the medallion of Gilean,
we managed to defeat the Mother of Gods, Hera, before the other
gods could arrive.
The battle was terrible. It was all I could do to keep alive.
Spell after spell we traded until she was weakened so greatly that
we managed to defeat her mortal avatar. With the Sapphire from her
ring we formed three fourths of the Key of Hope.
