Why do I attack less frequently than other people, even with
my super-duper weapon? |
|
Check the weapon type. The larger
the weapon is, the longer the delay between blows, and also
the more action points you will need to use them. You will
notice you hit more when you use a dagger as compared to when
you use a polearm. But you will hit the mob harder with the
polearm, as weapons with a longer delay usually inflict more
damage than those with a shorter delay.
Listed below, from least to most delay, are the various weapon
types:
Dart, dagger, hand to hand, sword, mace, whip, bow, spear,
flail, 2-handed sword, axe (2-handed), polearm (2-handed).
Try not to use your weapons after learning your first offensive skill or spell.

Why are some monsters harder to kill than other monsters of
the same level? |
|
Some monsters have a special resistance. For example, if
you fight a monster that is resistant to physical attacks,
you will inflict little damage using your weapon and may have
to use magic against it. Also, a monster may be resistant
to a certain element. For example, using a fiery dagger (whose
damage type is fire) against the Fire Ruler (who is resistant
to fire) would backfire and even heal him.

I need to get somewhere but there's an aggressive monster
on the way. What do I do? |
|
You could try to make yourself invisible by quaffing the appropriate
potion. Or if you have the sneak and hide skills or genes, use
them to sneak past the monsters. Of course, these tricks would
only work if the monsters cannot detect invis or detect hidden.
If there's no other way, you can try to ask a high level player
to help you kill it. |

Why do I see 'You prepare to...'? Where's my bash? |
|
When you see yourself preparing to do something you just typed
in, it means that the current amount of action points you have
is not sufficient to carry out the command. The command will
be executed the moment you regenerate the required amount. Take
this as a safeguard against stacking in too many commands -
sometimes when a battle goes awry, you should be fleeing rather
than waiting for commands to be executed. |
|
|
5. |
Why do my action points refresh so slowly? |
|
Is your dexterity low? The number of action points you regenerate
depends on this attribute. |
|
|
6. |
Why can't I change weapons or equipment while fighting? |
|
That's a feature of HOTL3. If you decide you want to change
something, flee from the battle and do it. Unless of course,
you have the 'switch weapon' skill, which will allow you to
do just as its name implies. |

7. |
What precautions can I take against dying? |
|
A couple of things. First, make sure you have set your wimpy,
which is the level of hitpoints at which you will automatically
attempt to flee. And make it high enough to give you time to
actually flee. Second, always consider the monsters before you
try to kill them. This will give you a rough idea on your chances
of defeating it. Lastly, try to avoid the higher level areas
with aggressive mobs - at least don't go there alone. These
are just some suggestions. You will soon realise that experience
counts for a lot in your adventuring career. |

What should I do when I die? |
|
Don't panic. It's normal to die in the course of the game.
What happens is that you will immediately be reincarnated
at the Midgaard Temple Altar, while your corpse and belongings
will be left in the room where you died. If there are no
aggressive monsters in that area, you can walk back to collect
your things. If there are, however, let your statistics regenerate
first in case you have to make a dash for it.
If your corpse is in a particularly dangerous area, you might want to use the 'retrieve' command to get your corpse back. However, this comes with a price.

Can I kill other players? |
|
Yes. You can either fight and 'kill' them in war
or duels, or be part of a Clan
an join in the playerkilling. Those who don't belong to any
Clan are safe from playerkilling. |
