Magic

There are eight planes of magic in HOTL3:

Fire (5 books) Water (8 books)
Earth (5 books) Wind (8 books)
Lightning (5 books) Poison (5 books)
Holy (9 books) Evil (7 books)
Druid (7 books)

In addition to these prescribed texts,any sort of spellcasting career demands knowledge in the books of Novice and Adept.

The knowledge of spells in each sphere is contained within books to be purchased from the respective guilds, or found on their appropriate owners throughout the lands. If you so wish to learn to use magic, you would first need to obtain the book, learn from it, and practise the spells therein. You may practice each spell up to 100%. Needless to say, a higher level of practice means you fail less often. The level of your practice is important at higher generations as you will gain one level of expertise for every spell practised at over 90%.

Spells can be further described in these broad categories:

Attack - Destructive spells, associated with mages
Defense - Protective spells, associated with mages or clerics
Healing - Restorative & regenerative spells, associated with clerics
Maladiction - Spells with ill-effects, associated with evil characters
Area - Spells that affect ALL monsters in the same room
