Alignment
Alignment refers to your attitude towards morality and the forces
of the universe. Those who are good-aligned tend to respect order
and work towards the greater good, while those who are evil-aligned
thrive on chaos and self-fulfillment especially at the expense of
others. Neutral characters subscribe to neither of these extremes,
and do things without worrying about moral consequences.
Alignment is expressed numerically in your Score, where:

Some races have alignment genes, eg. panthatians
and draconians are evil, wraiths
and trolls are neutral, and pixies
and dryads are good. This simply means that they have
to keep within the limits of their alignment in order to receive experience
points.
To maintain your alignment, you have to kill mobs that are neutral
or are of an opposite alignment. Killing mobs of the same alignment
as yourself will turn you against that alignment. So if you are
good, killing good-aligned cityguards will slowly make you evil.
The greater the level difference, the more your alignment will change
(if it does).
A side note:
This is not to say that you cannot decide to change alignment at
any point during your adventuring career. If you have no alignment
genes, you are free to switch alignment any time you want. Just
make sure you check your equipment for alignment restrictions as
those would hurt you and fall off.
